Vitamin D, what some people call the sunshine vitamin, is one of the most influential vitamins that the body makes. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that actually acts more like a hormone than a true vitamin in the body. It is made by converting the UV rays of the sun that are absorbed through our skin into vitamin D. However, it is very difficult to produce necessary amounts of vitamin D through sunlight alone, not to mention if you are wearing sun protection in the form of sunscreen or clothing then you aren’t able to absorb the UV rays in order to convert it into vitamin D. Vitamin D does naturally occur in some foods like fatty fish such as salmon or tuna, liver, cheese, etc, though it is still difficult to get enough vitamin D through these foods alone.
The best way to achieve optimal vitamin D levels is through either oral supplementation or through vitamin D injections. It is important to note that before you start to supplement with vitamin D you need to know what your current vitamin D levels are. You can find out what your current vitamin D levels are through a blood test, I often recommend getting your vitamin D tested at least twice a year. Once vitamin D levels are known, then the necessary dosing or frequency of injections can be determined. Supplementing with oral vitamin D can be an easy solution to be able to restore optimal levels of vitamin D. The best supplement version of vitamin D is in the form of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) because it can be more effective at raising vitamin D levels in the blood compared to the other form, vitamin D2.
Another way to reach optimal levels of vitamin D is through getting vitamin D injections and is often a favourite way for some people because it can be one of the quickest ways to obtain optimal levels. A vitamin D injection involves administering vitamin D3 through intramuscular injection. This means that vitamin D3 goes into the muscles and allows for it to be delivered into the bloodstream for maximum absorption.
There are many benefits of vitamin D3 injections but here are 5 benefits of how vitamin D3 injections can enhance your health:
Vitamin D plays a crucial role in improving and supporting our immune system. It helps to regulate the production of inflammatory cytokines and helps to protect against bacterial and viral infections.
Having adequate and optimal levels of vitamin D helps to increase energy. People will often experience increased levels of energy as one of the first things they notice since starting vitamin D injections.
Another sign that people will notice since starting vitamin D injections is their mood will improve and they will feel more positive and happy overall. Research has shown a link between vitamin D deficiency and mood disorders such as depression and anxiety.
Vitamin D is involved in regulating hormone production as well as influencing the synthesis of steroid hormones like estrogen, progesterone and testosterone to name a few.
Vitamin D also aids in the absorption of magnesium which helps to support muscle and nerve function. Vitamin D helps muscles contract properly and effectively and is also essential for maintaining healthy nerve connections to the brain. Vitamin D also has neuroprotective effects, meaning that it helps protect nerves from damage.
