PMS is diagnosed based on symptoms, however, bloodwork is often ordered to help rule out other conditions and screen for any deficiencies or suboptimal levels that could be impacting your symptoms of PMS.
The causes of PMS can be different for everyone as several factors may be involved. Most commonly changes in hormones during the menstrual cycle is the main cause. Other factors that could cause PMS include vitamin deficiencies such as vitamin D and B12 deficiencies, unhealthy diet, inflammation, immune dysfunction, etc.
